You might have adopted a baby? What do you mean might??
[Forget about keeping this to text. He's calling her, whispering as softly as he can without sounding too angry when Hel picks up. Time for a million questions in rapid succession.]
Hel - what do you mean might? Did you grab the baby or not? Does your dad know?
[He's glancing around his work area, making sure Loki isn't lurking nearby. If his partner doesn't know about this mysteriously adopted baby yet...]
[ She starts to type the whole story about how she found the baby when her phone rings. Is she in trouble now? ]
Hello?
[ Right, the baby. Her answer comes out in a rush because Mobius is asking her one question after the other, and it feels like it's the only way she can get out of trouble. She's not doing anything wrong, is she? ] His mother left him in my arms and said she'll be back, but she never returned. I waited all night. Father said I could keep him if I wanted. I want to, even if he cries a lot and won't let me get any sleep. James said he'll come help though.
[Mobius says hi when she picks up the call - because he has to be polite - and then he's quiet (and judging) as he listens to Hel attempt to explain herself.
Hold up.]
Loki knows about this? [Uh oh.] Can't believe I'm a grandpa and he couldn't even bother leavin' me a note or something. [An annoyed-sounding huff.] This is all happenin' way too fast...
[Is he pacing in his cubicle space? Don't worry about it.]
Did you know the woman? Who just - left the kid with you? [Because people rarely end up in Hel's literal neck of the woods as far as he knows.] Is it mortal?
No, I didn't know her. She was human, that's all I know. I found her at the edge of the woods while Garmr and I were out for a walk. She was very upset... I tried to ask her what was wrong, but she was crying, and the baby was crying, and she asked if I could hold him for her. He's so tiny, Mobius. I couldn't leave him there.
[ Though it's odd that Loki still hasn't told Mobius. ] Father said we were going to have a celebration and invite you. Maybe he's planning a surprise party? I haven't had time to arrange anything, I've been so tired. Vetle never sleeps. He's always hungry or crying.
Uh huh. [He's nodding his head as he listens to her talk (not like she'd be able to know that, but still). Making soft noises of acknowledge every now and then. There's definitely more pacing going on.]
No - Hel, you did the right thing there. I guess. I mean - there's no way you coulda known she wouldn't come back. [Pause. A thought out loud:] She still could. Maybe.
[It's like he's trying to work out all the possibilities in real time. Out loud.]
Uhh - maybe? [Sigh. This is such a big thing for Loki to casually forget to share. He's so disappointed right now. But maybe she has a point? Maybe it's supposed to be a surprise? Hey look my kid found a baby?] I'll have to ask him... or something...
[Another sigh.] Poor little guy. I know you're doin' your best. And you have help, right? When's Bucky getting there? Do I need to go?
[Mobius doesn't know the first thing about taking care of babies, but dammit he could try.]

What do you mean benefits?
Like health insurance? Yea definitely.
Why do you ask?

[ Well stepdad was going to find out sooner or later anyway, so: ] I might have adopted a baby.
